Living Room Refresh

Living Room Refresh

Giving your living room or family room a refresh is never an easy task. While some homeowners want to change a few details others go with a complete make over.

Either way here are a few simple additions we have done in the past that we feel could be great ideas for any space!

Timber Mantels

A timber mantel can be make a huge statement to a room bringing in the rustic feel of nature. The mantel in the below photo was milled from decades old Douglas Fir timbers reclaimed from a historical grain elevator in Meadows Manitoba.

This one was milled to maintain as much existing colour while still having a sanded finish with clear coat.

Wall Cladding

Wall/fireplace cladding still continues to be a hot trend! Will this really ever go out of style though? If done correctly with the right amount of square foot coverage the visual impact can be great!

In the below photo the homeowners design team really love the look of the Japanese style Shou Sugi Ban.

In the second photo you can see beautiful naturally rustic fir boards that still display the original saw blade marks when they were first cut into timber! There is amazing colour from all the years of outdoor exposure! This definitely is a great way to add some warmth to a space!

Shelving

Shelves are an obvious solution for putting photos, books, and art on but they can also provide balance to a room by filling in spaces in corners.

Below are two excellent examples of how shelving can be used functionally while giving the space balance in relation to the other decor in the room.
