officially opened the International Polar Bear Conservation Centre (IPBCC) located within the Assiniboine Park Zoo. As a key component of the new 10-acre Journey to Churchill exhibit currently under construction, the IPBCC will be a centre of global influence in the field of polar bear research and conservation.
With a $31-million commitment made by the Province of Manitoba last year and ongoing operational support from the City of Winnipeg, the IPBCC, in partnership with Manitoba Conservation & Water Stewardship, will allow the Assiniboine Park Zoo to more actively contribute to environmental and wildlife education, research, and conservation.
